Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has canceled her appearance with Attorney General Jeff Sessions Wednesday at Lake Hamilton schools in Pearcy. But Sessions will still be on hand with others.

The topic: “Proactively Protecting Our Schools.”

Sessions will be accompanied by Deputy Education Secretary Mitchell Zais, Elinore McCance-Katz, assistant secretary for mental health and substance use for the Department of Health and Human Services, and Thomas Walters, director of law enforcement training centers for Homeland Security. Gov. Asa Hutchinson will be on hand, too.

Roundtables — one with law enforcement and one with community members — will discuss school safety.

This is a publicity stunt. I’m guessing Moms Demand and Jan Morgan won’t be on the community panel.

UPDATE: I should have mentioned earlier that, while entrance to the event will be controlled, protest demonstrations are planned. Those expected to attend include Hayden Shamel, the Democratic nominee for Congress against Republican 4th District Rep. Bruce Westerman.
