A wave of gun violence continues in Magnolia, as police yesterday identified the town’s fourth shooting death since Monday, the Magnolia Reporter reports.

Nathaniel Smith, 83, was found dead yesterday morning at 621 Jeanette Street. Police are still investigating when Smith was shot.

Here’s the Reporter on the horrific week in Magnolia, which has around 12,000 residents:

The spasm of homicides began Monday afternoon. Police responded to a shooting at 226 Norma St. where they found Jarious Shaw, 22, who lived at the Preston Apartments at 436 Renfroe, lying in the back yard. He was pronounced dead at 12:33 p.m. at the Magnolia Regional Medical Center emergency room. No suspect has been arrested.

At 6:40 p.m. Monday, police were called to the Magnuson Hotel on East Main Street in response to a report of a shot being fired near the hotel, and that an injured man had gone into one of the rooms. Officers found Damarras Akheen “Squirt” Henderson, 24, of El Dorado, deceased inside.

At about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday night, officers went to Preston Apartments to serve a first-degree murder warrant in the Henderson homicide. There was gunfire and a man identified by family members as Rodrick McDaniel, 33, was shot by a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy. McDaniel died at the MRMC emergency room.

Prior to the four shooting deaths this week, only one homicide had been reported in Columbia County this year; just one shooting death was reported all year in 2017.
