Another day another ranking that puts Little Rock among the most dangerous cities in the United States. is the latest compiler. It’s not really new, but based on September FBI crime figures. But it’s yet another Internet link for the Google search engine that will put Little Rock high on the list of the country’s most dangerous cities — No. 6 to be precise based on stats from the Central Arkansas metro area (which includes Conway, BTW).


No. 1: The Memphis metro area, which includes territory across the Mississippi River in Arkansas.

Noted: A 10-year drop in violent crime nationally, but an increase in the last five years.

Crime in Arkansas has been on the increase for the past two decades. In 2017 in the Little Rock metro area, 87 people were murdered and there were 453 reported rapes.

While the official poverty rate in the U.S. was 12.3 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rate in Little Rock was well above that at 18.5 percent.
