The Morrilton Chamber of Commerce will soon announce results of a feasibility study to build a “Little Dam Bridge” over the Arkansas River Ormond Lock and Dam in Morrilton as a tourist attraction.

The Conway County Economic Development Corporation and the state Parks and Tourism Department undertook the study of a project to emulate the Big Dam Bridge over the Murray Lock and Dam in Little Rock, a huge hit since its opening in 2006 with a linkage to bike/hike trails, including a path to another bike/hike bridge over the Little Maumelle River nearby.

No word yet on cost or money sources for the Morrilton project. The Big Dam Bridge cost $16.5 million, with $4 million coming from county money through the road fund property tax and the rest coming from state and federal sources.

Dr. Stephen O’Connell of UCA will present study findings Wednesday.
