STEPHENS TOWNHOUSE: In Manhattan Google Streetview

The New York Times reports on a woman trapped in the elevator of a Manhattan townhouse for three days. Arkansas angle: It’s the townhouse purchased for $8 million in 1999 by Little Rock financier Warren Stephens and his wife Harriet.

Residents of the townhouse arrived there Monday morning, discovered the trapped worker and called 911. She’s reportedly in good condition. The elevator had been inspected in July and, as yet, no word on the cause of the malfunction.

The New York Post identified the trapped woman as Marites Fortaliza, 53, a housekeeper. It said she became stuck between the second and third floors Friday evening. Reporters have been unable get comments by phone or in person from people at the five-story residence on East 65th Street or at Stephens Inc., headquarters in Little Rock.

UPDATE: A Stephens Inc. representative issued the following prepared statement:

The employee involved has been a valued member of the Stephens extended family for 18 years. The Stephens family is relieved and thankful that she is doing well in the hospital. A Stephens family member accompanied her to the hospital this morning and remains at her side. The cause of this unfortunate incident is being investigated and appropriate measures will be taken to ensure that something like this never happens again.
