News breaks today that the viral story about the trail runner who survived an attack by killing a mountain lion in Colorado with his bare hands is former Mountain Home resident, Travis Kauffman, 31.

From the Denver Post:

Travis Kauffman, 31, formally of Mountain Home, Ark., received more than 20 stitches to his face, and suffered contusions and puncture wounds to his neck and legs that did not require stitches, according to a news release by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Kauffman, who has been living with his girlfriend the past five years in Fort Collins, and works in environmental consulting, loves outdoor recreation including skiing, mountain biking and trail running, the news release says.

He did a long interview earlier with a friend who was a KUMC reporter. Obituary information indicates he’s the son of the late Bob Kauffman, a general contractor who moved to Mountain Home about 25 years ago, in 1993. Travis Kauffman has lived in Fort Collins about five years.

He had a one-time news conference today for all media comers and then planned to take a vacation. Around the 20-minute mark in the video, he talks about the encounter.
