A shooting Thursday evening at the West Mountain Overlook in Hot Springs prompted the National Park Service to close the West Mountain Summit and some trails temporarily. They are tight-lipped about details.

A Park Service release said it does not believe there are “ongoing safety concerns for the public.” Chief Ranger Justin Cully said he couldn’t release more information for the time being.


Someone was shot and transported to a hospital, but the extent of injuries wasn’t known nor any more details about the circumstances.

On February 21, 2019 at about 7:00pm National Park Service Dispatch was advised of a male that had been shot at the West Mountain Overlook. National Park

Rangers responded along with Hot Springs Police and located a male with a single gunshot wound.

Rangers provided initial patient care and secured the crime scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition.
