Mike Anderson has been hired as the new basketball coach at St. John’s. Anderson was fired as coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks in March after eight seasons.

Anderson was 169-102 over his tenure with the Razorbacks, including three trips to the NCAA tournament and two more to the NIT. He never got past the second round of the NCAA tournament. Arkansas finished 18-16 last season, finishing ninth in the Southeaster Conference and making the second round of the NIT, finally spelling his doom for a program that still holds loftier dreams.

Anderson previously played under coach Nolan Richardson at the University of Tulsa and followed Richardson to Arkansas, where Anderson served as an assistant coach for seventeen years, from 1985-2002, including the Hogs’ national championship season in 1994.

Eric Musselman, the former coach at the University of Nevada (Reno), was hired to replace Anderson earlier this month.

Anderson will replace Chris Mullin as head coach for the St. John’s Red Storm. Mullin stepped down on April 9 after four seasons.
