Fall in Bentonville

This fall, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is offering three unforgettable experiences that will illuminate the ways in which you interact with art! A new permanent acquisition (Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room), a new exhibition (Crystals in Art: Ancient to Today), and a brand new forest experience (North Forest Lights), all open at Crystal Bridges this October.

  1. Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room: Now open to the public

Crystal Bridges recently acquired a Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrored Room, which is an enclosed room filled with mirrors and dotted paper lanterns that change color. Yayoi Kusama is one of the most famous living female artists whose artworks and installations can be found in museums around the world. Since the 1960’s, Kusama has been creating Infinity Mirror Rooms that provoke a sense of boundlessness and transcendence through extreme repetition.

The great thing about this experience is that this installation is part of the museum’s permanent collection, meaning that it is here to stay for the foreseeable future!

  1. Crystals in Art: Ancient to Today: October 12, 2019 – January 6, 2020

Anthony James, Portal Icosohedron, 2019, steel, glass, LED Lights. Anthony James Studio.

Crystals in Art: Ancient to Today explores the relationship that crystals and art have shared for millennia. The scope of this exhibition ranges from objects created during ancient Egypt’s Middle Kingdom to contemporary artworks created in the past few years.

Experience a wide variety of art mediums in this show beyond art shaped from crystal, including paintings, photographs, and sculptures. Even if you’re not into rocks, we have something for you!

This exhibition also has a special connection to our home state. Arkansas is the only place in North America where quartz crystal is mined. Crystals in Art offers an appreciation for crystals found in Arkansas, including several specimens found and mined in the state.

3. North Forest Lights: October 26, 2019 – February 16, 2020

North Forest Lights is a nighttime, multimedia experience in the middle of the North Forest unlike anything Crystal Bridges has ever done before. Five distinct installations will bring the soul and rhythm of the forest to life with light, sound, and sensory effects for a captivating, unforgettable adventure. The experience was created exclusively for Crystal Bridges by Montreal-based multimedia entertainment studio, Moment Factory.

To be clear, this is not a holiday light show, but rather a show that uses light and music to create unique experiences and help us to reconnect with nature. Coffee, hot cocoa, snacks and more will be available for purchase in North Forest Lights which will be open in the evening hours, after sunset.

North Forest Lights will not be traveling to any other locations and cannot be experienced anywhere else in the world, so make your plans to visit and get your Instagram ready!
