The state Department of Agriculture announced today that it had hired John Paul Fairhead, who’d been a Game and Fish Commission field biologist, to head a feral hog eradication program to be funded by a $3.4 million federal grant.

Feral hogs are prolific breeders and capable of great destruction to farmland and native wildlife.

The project will aim to reduce the feral hog population and provide information about control methods in four project areas in Arkansas.
