Attorneys general from three states — Alabama, Louisiana and South Dakotahave filed a federal lawsuit in Alabama to block efforts to breathe life into the Equal Rights Amendment.

The suit asserts the possibility of imminent harm from the ERA. (What? The old men in the girls’ bathroom complaint?)

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has been a ready participant in Republican actions such as these. There’s a long road to go here, beginning with a question of standing. But worth watching.

More news coverage here about the Alabama demagogue leading this charge, which supporters of the ERA call fear-mongering. Yes, abortion and the end of men and women sports teams are mentioned. The legal argument is that the deadline has expired for ratification and can’t be extended.
