The ballot snafu in Jefferson County has prompted the Arkansas Democratic Party to call for a statewide ballot review.

The Party has sent this request by Party Chair Michael John Gray to Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Secretary of State John Thurston and the state Board of Election Commissioners:

Confirmation on February 27, 2020 that 152 voters in Jefferson County were given the wrong ballots in precincts 221, 222, 223, and 224 necessitates a full and formal review of the accuracy of the ballots given in those four precincts, for election years 2016, 2018, and 2020. We also formally request a review of the ballot in every precinct in the state of Arkansas, the concern being transparency and accuracy. If this can happen in Pine Bluff it can happen anywhere in the state.

Not only were 152 voters denied their Constitutional right to cast a ballot in their state Senate race, they were led to cast their vote in a district in which they are not eligible to vote.

The State Board of Election Commissioners should immediately begin:
– A full and formal review of precincts 221, 222, 223, and 224 in Jefferson County encompassing the previous three elections.
– A full and formal review of every precinct in Arkansas, to ensure that each precinct is recieving the correct ballot.

The right to vote is sacred, and we must ensure free and fair elections.

In light of the issues in Jefferson County, a full review of the state’s precincts must be conducted by responsible parties.

PS: Current reporting from KARK indicates that the 152 voters given erroneous ballots in Jefferson County will have to vote again. The original ballots won’t be counted.
