Longtime child welfare advocate and mom of two Anna Strong came through with plenty of votes Tuesday to secure a spot on the Little Rock School District Board.
While there was another name on the ballot for the Zone 5 position, Strong was the only real candidate. Donnally Davis filed to run for the seat being vacated by Ali Noland, but dropped out of the race within a day or two. Still, her name remained on the ballot. Davis earned 14 votes, Strong got 547.
A graduate of Hendrix College, the Clinton School of Public Service and the UAMS College of Public Health, Strong is the executive director of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She was elected to a five-year term, which is unpaid. And it promises to be a lot of work. Plagued for decades by white flight attrition, the Little Rock School District is struggling to compete for students as the newly passed Arkansas LEARNS Act offers taxpayer-funded vouchers to private school families.
Strong’s zone stretches from the Heights southward through Hillcrest, into Stifft Station and across I-630 to Charles Bussey Avenue.
