DRIVER’S LICENSE: The Arkansas Legislative Council will consider an emergency rule at noon.

The Arkansas Legislative Council will consider an emergency rule regarding gender information displayed on Arkansas driver’s licenses Thursday at noon in Room B of the Multi-Agency Complex. No public comments will be allowed.

The rule change, which Gov. Sarah Sanders championed in a statement Tuesday, is the first item on the agenda for the panel’s executive subcommittee. The item will be presented by Paul Gehring, assistant commission of Revenue for the Department of Finance and Administration, according to the committee’s agenda. Here are DFA’s supporting documents.

The department announced Tuesday that Arkansans would need to provide an amended birth certificate if they wish to change the sex listed on driver’s licenses or state-issued IDs. Using an “X” instead of an “M” or “F” will no longer be allowed.
