We stumbled into something recently at Capriccio Grill Italian Steakhouse in the Peabody-Little Rock that could be the next local dining trend – it certainly fits in with diners’ desires to cut the calories from the diet while still enjoying a nice meal. Capriccio now offers for its desserts at lunch the “dessert shooter.” Not a shooter in the bar sense of tipping it up and downing it like a small drink, this shooter rather is crafted by Capriccio’s dessert chef to fit the shooter glass, and you eat this mini sweet with a teaspoon. We note a high level of care that went into assembling the coconut cream pie shooter on our recent trip. Our waitress brought out 10 choices, including chocolate mousse, a key lime pie that tasted closer to a lemon cream pie, a cheesecake with raspberry and a tiramisu. Each dessert shooter is $1.95; three of those would equal one full-size dessert in price and calories at other fine dining restaurants. Capriccio makes the dessert shooter available at dinner along with a full array of full-size desserts. At lunch, it’s just the right size to cap a meal with a sweet taste after having Capriccio’s daily pasta bar and salad special ($10.95).

CHINA INN Open for more than eight years now, China Inn is still cooking up a popular all-you-can-eat Chinese and American style buffet at a very reasonable $5.45 lunch price. What’s unique about that lunch price is it’s good on Sunday, too. For us, the sesame chicken, hot and sour soup and sauteed snap beans are the standouts. Dinner brings on the extra offering of barbecued spare ribs, oysters on the half shell, shrimp and sushi for $8.95. All you-can-eat snow crabs at market price are also offered. If buffets are not to your liking, a full menu is available. Service is consistently good on drink refills. Take out is available, and free delivery is offered in the area. Save some money and print out their “buy one lunch buffet and get second one at half price” coupon at their web site, www.arkansas web.com/chinainn. That’s $8.18 plus tax for two lunches! 2629 Lakewood Village, 771-2288, LD 7 days. $-$$ CC Beer and wine.

Ferneau is the correct spelling of the new restaurant in the Ice House Revival on Kavanaugh Boulevard in Hillcrest. We had been adding an apostrophe and s to the name, incorrectly. Also, Jeff Ferneau, the brother of chef and co-owner Donnie Ferneau, is the chief bartender, as well as general manager, of the restaurant. The chief bartender was misidentified in the Jan. 13 issue of the Times.
