I know Gene Sparling from the ivory-billed woodpecker woods. He’s the famous kayaker who spied the bird and set off a search by bigwigs from Cornell. These days Gene is known for his woodworking talent. On Friday night, the Historic Arkansas Museum opens “Aspects of Abstraction,” featuring work by Gene and painter Donnie Copeland. I don’t know Copeland but got a note from him today: “I’ve done what I can to make a smashing collection.”
