Little Rock sculptor Kevin Kresse has been chosen to create a monument to Gen. William O. Darby, a World War II hero who was promoted to Brigadier General posthumously after he was killed by shrapnel two days before the war ended, the Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith reports.

Kresse will show Darby on a 1942 Harley Davidson WLA. The monument will cost $250,000 and will be paid for through donations to the Darby Legacy Project. A “Meet the Artist” event is scheduled for Nov. 1 in the Fort Smith Riverfront Pavilion, 100 N. B St.
