Kindler, a Virginia artist who creates amazing large-scale cut paper collages on Mylar, will speak at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, the closing day of her exhibit “Paper Construction” in the gallery. She’ll talk about process and purpose: “Inspired by recycling and pre-fabricated structures, my recent work is as much about excavation and the mining of subject matter as it is the desire to transform the ordinary object,” Kindler says in a press release.

Mitchell, an installation artist who lives in Mountain Home, will give a talk at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 24 about his experience as a contestant on Bravo’s “The Next Great Artist” in 2011. He is jurying UCA’s Annual Student Competitive that opens  March 2 at the Baum Gallery. Mitchell, who earned his BFA from Arkansas State University and an MFA in sculpture from the University of Michigan, pays homage (consciously or not) to ASU’s John Salvest with this 2004 piece, “New Glory”:
