The Little Rock-based Oxford American magazine has released the cover for this year’s Summer issue, which will be on newsstands June 1. The issue features novelist Lauren Groff on the mermaids at Florida’s Weeki Wachee Springs, music critic Amanda Petrusich on the rare 78 collector Joe Bussard, a dispatch from the Boy Scout Jamboree from Rosecrans Baldwin, John T. Edge on truck-stop Indian food and fiction by George Singleton. There is also poetry (curated by guest poetry editor Rebecca Gayle Howell); essays on Hilton Als, West Virginia and pimento cheese; a remembrance of the sculptor and Delta blues musician Son Thomas and a strange meditation on squirrels. It’s a lot to take in, which might be why they only manage four of these things a year.
