At our last Food Feedback Friday, we had a nice little discussion on restaurant music choices and some of the regulations therein. Much of this centered around complaints towards Cache and their “abominable” music choice. Steve reports they’re playing “basically pop songs set to a house DJ beat and turned up just a little too high.” Then Poison Apple weighed in with this: “I don’t know who makes music selections there at Cache and (I) have no clue what type of mood they were trying to create, but it was literally the worst music I have ever heard in a restaurant.” Later, Amy Kelley Bell (of South on Main) explains, “As for Cache’s music – the only defense I could give them is that restaurants (legally) are required to play music through a service like Pandora-DMX. We can’t just play our own iPods, or even use Spotify, because there are laws that require royalty fees are paid to artists if music is played in a commercial setting.” It was an interesting conversation, you can go back and read it here.

There was some talk about liquor laws, and Big Fun shared this frustration with us: “My complaint about Lulav — and others do it too — is that they put the 30-plus-percent liquor tax on as a tax and don’t include it as part of the price of the drink, which I think is deceptive.”

However, it was refreshing to hear a good report coming from AshAhrens on the reincarnation of Lulav. She says, “We chose to share a Blue Point crab cake. I’m not kidding when I report that it may be the best crab cake in the city (not IN THE WORLD but in Little Rock).”
