1. Reggie Gold – “Can’t Say Shit”
Reggie Gold is another member of the local Young Gods of America collective worth paying attention to — this song appeared two days ago and has an eerie Danny Elfman energy to it. Gold talks about Beyonce and mozzarella cheese and says “I don’t even have to rap.” He’s also really great at Twitter, where he says things like, “i have flashbacks of ancient memories all through out the day..they be of the most vivid dreams.”
2. The Coasts – “I Don’t Believe You”
The Coasts are a really good band from Little Rock who recently made a really good record (called “Racilia”) which they’ve been attempting to release on vinyl — a crowd-funding effort that met its mark two days ago. They also played the Times showcase in 2012 and made a music video the other day featuring saxophones and a cool child in a superman costume.
3. Lil Futa – “Y.A.T.C.L.”
Lil Futa, who as we noted back in February has committed to making a new mixtape every month this year, is still very much holding up his end of this bargain, and the July tape, “Rock Tunez 3” is one of his best yet. This track is all vulnerable sing-rapping (lines like “You and I know that deep down I love being alone”) and synth strings and Auto-Tuned humming.
4. Rod-D – “Pull Up”
Who knows why Rod-D has a “trunk full of Funyons.” It’s just one of those things.
