1. Rose Eater – “Admit It To Me”
Rose Eater is a Little Rock indie rock band who seem very new and very young. Their Facebook page says they’re about to record their first album, but this is from an EP called “Leech” they released on Friday.
2.. Dionté BOOM – “Lickin'”
I missed this a few weeks ago, but here’s a really good new video from Little Rock’s Dionté BOOM. Among other things, BOOM is also an accomplished producer (who just released a collection of instrumentals, “Answe A“). Here he says things like “The A.R.K. is from where I set sail,” over a beat that sounds like it was played on a silent movie organ.
4. Rod-D ft. Southwest Boaz & Leanna – “Lose Control”
Rod-D‘s new mixtape comes out this month — he’s having a release party at Club Trois on Asher Ave. on the 28th. Here’s his latest video from a couple of weeks ago, which finds him reminiscing about the time he met DJ Screw over some really ominous, Ken Burns-style archival photography.
5. Canopy Climbers – “Slip”
Here’s the new single from Little Rock synth-pop band Canopy Climbers, which remarkably (and accidentally) borrows it chorus from 90s street rap classic, “Nobody Needs Nobody,” by the great Playa Fly. It sounds a little like something from the “Drive” soundtrack, but a lot more emotive.
UPDATE: Not “accidentally” after all:
