Louise Halsey, "Crackhouse"

March is not just what women do. It’s the month dedicated to them, and galleries are taking note. The Historic Arkansas Museum’s 2nd Friday reception (5-8 p.m.) opens “#5WomenArtists,” an answer to the National Museum of Women in the Arts’ social media challenge “Can you name five women artists?” HAM’s show features paintings by Martha Barber, Jenny Deloney, Elsie Freund and Nathalie Henry and weaving by contemporary Louise Halsey. Also at HAM: “Life in the Western Country,” celebrating the 200th anniversary of the creation of the Arkansas Territory with objects from the museum’s collection. Craft beers from Six Mile Brewery from Ozark will refresh.

Over at the Galleries at Library Square (the Butler Center galleries) is “Part to Whole: The Making of Art, the Artist and the Artist’s Group,” featuring work by Mia Hall, Robyn Horn, Dolores Justus, Barbara Satterfield, Sandra Sell and Elizabeth Weber in the West Gallery. “T.C. Tributes: Art Inspired by the late T.C. Edwards,” a collection of work inspired by the late rocker, is in the bookstore, and “Paintings by Henry James: Back the Garden” and “Made in America: Vintage Film Posters from the Ron Robinson Collection” continue in other galleries. It will also be open 5-8 p.m. for 2nd Friday.
