The Arkansas Arts Council will host a free reception for Hot Springs artist LongHua Xu, a sculptor and painter who was named an Arkansas Living Treasure for 2019.
LongHua, a native of China, immigrated to the United States in 1989 under the “extraordinary ability” program. In 1992, he was commissioned to make “Mother Nature,” a marble sculpture in front of the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs. He’s continued to create public art and is retired from Henderson State University in Hot Springs. The Living Treasure program recognizes Arkansas artists who excel in a traditional craft and has preserved the craft through outreach.
The reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in the Grand Lobby of the Hot Springs Convention Center at 134 Convention Center Blvd. RSVP by April 22 at 501-324-9348.
