If there weren’t already enough film events happening in Little Rock this weekend (Kaleidoscope LGBT+ Film Festival as well as a visit from Memphis director Craig Brewer), Arkansas Cinema Society will be showing a selection of movies from their Filmland: Arkansas program on Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2 at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts.
Though Filmland: Arkansas — which showcases filmmakers from The Natural State — typically falls under the umbrella of the full Filmland festival in October, an influx of quality submissions led ACS to schedule an earlier screening of some of the lengthier pictures. That said, Filmland will still occur Wednesday, Oct. 4 to Sunday, Oct. 8, also at the AMFA.
I’m most eager to see Cassie Keet’s horrific “Scream Therapy” (2023), whose log line reads as follows: “Five friends struggling in their lives head to the desert for a girls weekend of restorative scream therapy. Their vacation takes a sharp turn when they cross paths with a cult of incels who are on a very pressing human sacrifice deadline.”
Here’s a full schedule of what to expect from the preview of Filmland: Arkansas this weekend, which will include four documentaries and two fictional features:
