New Kari Faux video, 'Gahdamn'

Recent L.A. transplant Kari Faux, who made our shortlist for Arkansan of the Year this week, released a new video this morning for her single, "Gahdamn," the opening track from her 2014 tape, "Laugh Now, Die Later." The clip features Childish Gambino, who gave her a huge boost with his remix of her song, "No Small Talk" (excerpted at the beginning here), and her frequent collaborator and fellow Little Rock native BLACK PARTY.

Top 10 Little Rock albums of 2014

Here are the Little Rock albums we listened to more than any others this year, the ones that meant the most to us and that we’d push on any out-of-towners who asked what was new in the Little Rock music scene.

Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) remixes Kari Faux's 'No Small Talk'

Rapper and TV star Donald Glover ("Community") released a new mixtape today, "STN MTN" (that's Stone Mountain to those of you not from Georgia), hosted by DJ Drama no less, and the highlight is a remix of a song by Little Rock's own Kari Faux. "No Small Talk," which we previously labeled the Song of the Summer (was I wrong?), was produced by Kari and BLACK PARTY, and though I probably prefer the original version, this is big news for Arkansas and, who knows, might be Kari's Drake-cosigning-Migos moment.

New video from Kari Faux, 'On The Internet'

Complex premiered the new Kari Faux video yesterday afternoon, a trippy collage of old screensavers and `90s Windows visuals directed by Faux and Little Rock rap video guru Kenneth Bell.

New mixtape from Kari Faux, 'Laugh Now, Die Later'

Happy Friday! Here is a new tape from Little Rock's young legend Kari Faux, who has been having an amazing year (her first tape, "Spontaneous Generation," came out in February — taken together, they're probably the best debut of the year). She is a true role model. Houston's Fat Tony shows up, as does her frequent collaborator BLACK PARTY.

Arlington Hotel Edition, with Kari Faux and Country Florist

Little Rock's song of the summer now has a video, and it's better than any of us could have hoped, like DGainz meets DIS magazine. The fact that I've yet to hear this song on the radio here is a complete mystery.

New song from BLACK PARTY, 'Doomsday'

Malik Flint, the young Little Rock rapper and producer who has been around for years trying things out, recording with a live band (as Flint Eastwood) and under his own name, seems to be coming into his own lately. As a beatmaker, he's contributed heavily to releases by his friends (most notably Kari Faux, but also S.L. Jones, Lo Thraxx and others), and he's also a central figure in the Natural State of Mind crew that organizes the Trill Clinton and Good Vibes showcases, giving Little Rock hip-hop a sense of youthful energy and community it hasn't had for a minute. Now he's changed his named to BLACK PARTY, and has been issuing great stuff in short-form (never over two minutes long).

New song from Kari Faux, 'Spanglish'

It's been a couple of month's since Kari Faux's "Spontaneous Generation," and she's been busy in the meantime — she played a well-received set at SXSW in March, where she was singled out by Complex and MSNBC, and now she's back with a new single, "Spanglish," with a beat by Mike Theory and a weird, Pablo Escobar cover.

New mixtape and music video from Kari Faux, 'Spontaneous Generation'

Today is Kari Faux Day here at the Arkansas Times, as the Little Rock rapper and producer has released both her new mixtape, "Spontaneous Generation," and her new video, for "House of Avalon." The tape features a handful of her best recent songs, like "Vince Carter" and "Rap Game Daria," plus guest appearance by Little Rock exile S.L. Jones and production by locals Malik Flint and Fresco Grey.
