Board of directors to vote on citizens review board ordinance next week, despite calls for delay

In Tuesday afternoon's board of directors agenda meeting, Mayor Frank Scott Jr. and Little Rock Police Chief Keith Humphrey received criticism from city leaders about their proposed ordinance to create a citizens review board for the Little Rock Police Department. The ordinance will be up for a vote at next week's meeting, despite insistence from at-large directors Dean Kumpuris and Joan Adcock that a vote be delayed until residents are given more information about how the citizens review board will work.

B.J. Wyrick wants to work with more of Little Rock in second term as vice mayor

Vice Mayor Brenda “B.J.” Wyrick has served on the Little Rock Board of Directors for almost 25 years, including a previous stint as vice mayor from 2000-2001. As city director of Southwest Little Rock’s Ward 7, Wyrick represents neighborhoods south of Colonel Glenn Road to County Line Road and west of Chicot Road, as well as the Otter Creek area. Wyrick said she’s focused on improving infrastructure in the area, as well as increasing access to city services in the ward. Now in her second term as vice mayor, Wyrick says wants to do more work with other parts of the city in addition to her advocacy for Ward 7.

Scott agrees to close Hindman and War Memorial golf courses

Little Rock directors vote to table revised budget amendment for two weeks

In a Little Rock Board of Directors meeting Tuesday afternoon, city directors voted to delay action on a revised version of a budget amendment first presented at a meeting last week. The new amendment would reduce city expenditures for the rest of 2019 by about $2.1 million, a significant change from the original recommended amendment, which proposed adjusting the annual budget by around $5.3 million. The parks department, youth programs and outside agencies, including the Museum of Discovery and the Chamber of Commerce, would receive the largest cuts.

Little Rock mayor presents budget recommendations with cuts to parks personnel, Museum of Discovery: UPDATE

In a board of directors meeting Tuesday evening, Mayor Frank Scott Jr. presented two recommendation options for amendments to the city's budget. Both options call for significant cuts to employment in the city's Parks and Recreation department, the reallocation of $500,000 previously allotted to Rock Region Metro to the city's Street Fund, a 50 percent cut to the city's funding for the Museum of Discovery, and significant reductions to the Children, Youth and Families services budget and Prevention, Intervention and Treatment Funds.

Planning commission recommends Heights neighborhood tree ordinance for approval by board of directors

At a Little Rock Planning Commission meeting on Thursday afternoon, commissioners unanimously voted to recommend the city board of directors approve an ordinance presented by the Heights Neighborhood Association that would create a design overlay district in the Heights.
