I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything about the so-called West Memphis 3 case. I recently read the book and it raised lots of questions that have no answers. Had I been on one of the juries, I probably would have been left feeling there was at least reasonable doubt and therefore could not have voted to convict. Then again, I have very strong problems with the death penalty, and although I’m not for banning it altogether, my feelings would probably have kept me from serving on a death penalty qualified jury to begin with.
Yesterday Craighead County Circuit Judge David Burnett denied the request for a new trial. When I get some more time I’ll try to explain in depth how you get a new trial based on new evidence or DNA evidence in Arkansas.
