THURSDAY 7/25. 7 p.m. The Joint Theater & Coffeehouse. $35.
As part of its Potluck & Poison Ivy series, The Joint Theater & Coffeehouse is bringing the all-female family trio Sweet Cecilia to the storytelling and dinner event. Named for the family’s home town of Cecilia, La., sisters Laura Huval and Maegan Berard join their first cousin Callie Guidry to form Sweet Cecilia, a band deeply in touch with its Bayou roots. Both its 2017 album “Sing Me a Story” and its 2015 self-titled album feature songs in French, and Sweet Cecilia’s harmonies carry the language easily. The band was formed in 2012, but the trio began making music together during childhood. In 2017, Sweet Cecilia won Best Country Artist at the Best of the Beat awards for OffBeat Magazine, a New Orleans music magazine. Tickets for Potluck & Poison Ivy are $35, which includes dinner and Sweet Cecilia’s performance, and can be purchased at potluckandpoisonivy.org. Doors open at 6 p.m.
